The Revolutionary Childhood Blog - Welcome

At Priority Kids, we’ve been releasing our Prevention Gazette Newsletter since the early days of 2020. That is a whole pandemic ago!

Through the years we’ve been focused on promoting prevention and ranting about missed opportunities to protect children.

It’s time for a little shake up here at Priority Kids, and we are pleased to be re-branding our publication as The Revolutionary Childhood Blog.

Yes, we’re still all about prevention, and we’ll make time for a rant now and then, but it’s important to recognize and acknowledge that prevention requires a revolution.

Protecting children from sexual abuse doesn’t sound controversial. It sounds like a no-brainer, right? We can all agree that keeping kids safe from sexual abuse is worthwhile. Not too many people are going to stand up and speak out against prevention.

And yet, implementing prevention strategies is disruptive. It means doing things differently.

Implementing prevention strategies is met with resistance. It can be scary to try something new.

Implementing prevention strategies is regarded as unnecessary and too expensive.

So, in fact, raising our children in a way that protects them from sexual abuse requires us to revolutionize childhood.

And when we revolutionize childhood, we are transforming the world we live in.

The Revolutionary Childhood Blog is part of our effort to promote a balance of advocacy, action and affirmation (while acknowledging frustration along the way).

It is easy to be frustrated. Really easy.

Generations have witnessed the reality and prevalence of child sexual abuse, and yet generations have missed opportunities to create change.

Instead of tackling the problem, we continue to react as though we are shocked and surprised every time a youth leader, or youth organization is discovered to have caused harm.

Instead of taking the steps needed to prevent child sexual abuse, we allow ourselves to ignore the problem and instead focus on the symptoms.

Yes, it’s easy to be frustrated.

And yet, here we are advocating for prevention in a world that resists change.

Here we are, holding on to the knowledge that a child protected from sexual abuse is now protected from being unhoused, living in poverty, suffering from health conditions, and early death.

Every single human ailment can be reduced or improved when children are protected from sexual abuse.

That is what motivates us here at Priority Kids.

We are here to encourage and support the development of a Revolutionary Childhood.

A Revolutionary Childhood is one where children are protected and nurtured; where children are not exposed to hyper-sexualization and porn culture; where children play outside in nature using their imagination and developing their motor skills; where children are listened to and believed.

A Revolutionary Childhood has less anxiety and depression, and far more confidence, joy and creativity.

A Revolutionary Childhood is created on a foundation of prevention practices.

Our Revolutionary Childhood Blog will share prevention insights and practical steps that each of us can take as we nurture this revolution.

At Priority Kids, we dream of a beautiful world where everyone’s needs are met. A world where each person is encouraged and supported.

Child sexual abuse is one of the most significant barriers to this joyful and peaceful existence. Any other revolutionary change that is required for humanity to succeed, will be easier to identify and implement when child sexual abuse has been eradicated.

It starts with protecting children.

A Revolutionary Childhood requires adults to take action.

Reading the Revolutionary Childhood Blog is a great place to start. Thank you for taking the time to read this. We hope that you will stay involved in the Childhood Revolution by reading our posts.

You don’t have to be a parent or a caregiver to be involved in this revolution. We all have a role to play, and this publication can help you identify the steps you can take.

All revolutionaries are welcome here! At the core of every change that needs to occur is a need for people to accept and adopt those changes. Child sexual abuse affects a huge percentage of the population (34%) and requires a tremendous amount of time and energy to heal.

Let’s reduce childhood sexual abuse so that fewer people will struggle with recovery and more people will be free to experience curiosity, learning and freedom to embrace change.

We love to hear back from you with your reactions, thoughts, and affirmations. The more we share with each other, the greater chance we have of Revolutionizing Childhood so that we can all experience the benefits of a world where children are protected.

If you want to see more children protected, less suffering, and more joy in the world, we invite you to take action and share this Revolutionary Childhood Blog post with 5 friends, colleagues, or acquaintances.

Almost every adult can help revolutionize childhood.

That means me. And probably you. And a whole lot of other people.

When we work together to identify the steps we can take to keep kids safe from sexual abuse, we are revolutionaries.

The steps can be as simple as reading the Revolutionary Childhood Blog!
