Calls to Action

Join us every Wednesday at 7 pm (Atlantic) as we read a Call to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Report, and watch a short film by an Indigenous filmmaker.

Open Invitation

When the discovery of unmarked graves at residential school sites made mainstream news headlines in 2021, we took action here at Priority Kids.

We want to be involved in reconciliation, and we want you to join us.

We began a 94-week journey to read the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Report, and to watch a short film by an Indigenous film maker.

Why This Action? -

Our action is in response to two themes that we heard from Indigenous people following the Kamloops discovery.

1)      We heard many Indigenous people express frustration knowing that these residential school deaths were already known and documented. Many people expressed resignation. They said, ‘The media attention will move on, and who will care then?’.

2)      We heard many people draw attention the 94 Calls to Action that were recommended following the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada work. Many people called on all Canadians to read the Calls to Action.

And so we created the Calls to Action series to, 1) continue to speak openly and publicly about the importance of truth and reconciliation, and 2) to become better equipped to participate in reconciliation by learning the 94 Calls to Action.

You can help us make this action meaningful by participating in the Calls to Action Series.

The Calls to Action series is designed to be a safe place to prepare for reconciliation.

Our webinar-style format allows you to be a passive participant.

Together, we watch a short film, and listen to the Call to Action.

Our hope is that this will help each of us to better understand the diverse perspectives that exist in Canada and better understand the Calls to Action.

With this understanding, we will be better prepared to engage in reconciliation.
